Speed Test Survey for Future Grant Opportunities
Dear Member,
As you are aware, the Cooperative is in the process of installing a fiber optic network that will reach every home and business on Washington Island. The Cooperative is collaborating with other Towns in Door County and leveraging County and State organizations and capabilities. We have been successful in receiving grant funding up to this point, however will continue to look at additional funding to offset the cost of this project for our members. We have noted this in two of our monthly magazine articles, but it is important enough to note again. The State of Wisconsin has initiated a survey and speed test that will help correct FCC map inaccuracies and also help determine the amount of federal funding that comes to the State to be distributed for broadband projects. In addition, the speed tests will illustrate the fact that the Island is unserved despite FCC mapping information. This will help with justification for further grant funding. We need information from you to increase Washington Island’s eligibility for additional Wisconsin State Grants. It cannot be stressed enough that an accurate test for download and upload speeds is needed from your Washington Island address to show what internet services are currently in place.
The Public Service Commission of the State of Wisconsin is compiling the speed test data and those tests must occur from the speedtest link at the WISER (Wisconsin Internet Self-Report) website:
https://maps.psc.wi.gov/apps/WISER/index.html
In addition, Door County has a link to the above-mentioned WISER survey and has instituted a broadband office to help with efforts in the various townships, including ours even though we are a bit ahead of everyone else. The County would appreciate information from you as well.

Even if you are in the area where the first folks will be connected in the near future, it is important that you take this survey and run the speed test now. We will use all the data for justification for future grant opportunities.
The speed test must be completed at your Washington Island address to have accurate speeds recorded. If you do not have internet service, or have cellular internet service, please reference the second page of this letter.
Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey.
